Only locations in Bucktown, which is north of North Avenue, east of Western Ave, south of Fullerton Ave, and west of the Chicago River.

General Information

When is the Bucktown Yard Sale? The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 13, 2026. Selling hours are from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM rain or shine.

Where does the sale take place? This is a community-wide event taking place at individual yards and garages throughout the Bucktown neighborhood. For residents who do not have a yard or alleyway, a shared selling location will be hosted at Senior Citizens Memorial Park (2228 N Oakley Ave, Chicago, IL 60647).

Registration & Membership

Who can participate in the yard sale? Participation is open to all residents within the Bucktown community who have completed the registration process. To be featured on the official map and receive a city permit, participants must be current members of the Bucktown Community Organization (BCO) in good standing. A permit is required to participate in the Bucktown Yard Sale.

How much does it cost to register? Registration is included as a benefit of BCO membership, which costs $25 per year.

What is the registration deadline? The deadline to register and be included on the permit application and official event map is August 31, 2026.

Logistics & Permits

Do I need a permit to sell items? Yes. Every participating location must display an official permit from the city at your garage or in your yard. The BCO will facilitate this process by submitting all registered addresses to the Alderman’s office. Any sales not displaying a permit can be ticketed by the City of Chicago.

Where do I pick up my permit?

Pick up will be at Door24 (2124 N Damen Avenue 1st floor) on:

Wednesday, September 9th from 4p-8p
Saturday, September 12th from 12p-4p

If you are not able to pick up your permit during one of those two designated pick up times, please contact Nicole Johnson (information below) to arrange pick up.

IMPORTANT: If you are selling in Senior Citizens Memorial Park you do NOT need to pick up a permit ahead of time.

Can I sell items on the sidewalk or in the alley? No. All sales must take place on private property, such as a front yard, back yard, or garage. If you do not have access to these areas, please register to sell at the Senior Citizen Park. Selling on the public sidewalk is not permitted.

How will shoppers find my sale? The event will have an official printed and online Google Map that will feature all registered households. Printed maps will be limited and can be picked up at Senior Citizen’s Memorial Park and Door24 on the day of the event. The electronic map will be posted on the BCO website and shared through social media channels. Feel free to self promote your sale as well. The more foot traffic the better! Make sure to tag the BCO (@bucktowncommunityorg on Instagram) to reach the largest audience.

Selling at Senior Citizens Memorial Park

Where do I set up? Designated areas will be marked in the park. Please check in with the BCO volunteer on-site upon arrival to be directed to your assigned spot.

What do I need to bring? Please plan to bring your own table, chairs, and any display materials (e.g., racks, signs). No electricity or storage space is available, so bring everything you need for the day and be prepared to take it with you. This event is rain or shine so plan accordingly.

Do I need a separate permit for the park? No. The BCO handles the blanket permit for the park area. You do not need to pick up an individual permit if you are assigned a spot here.

What about clean-up? Please adhere to a "Leave No Trace" policy. You must remove all unsold items, trash, and personal equipment by 3:00 PM. The park must be left in the same condition as you found it.

Post-Event & Clean-up

Will there be a community "Freecycle" or bulk trash pickup? There will NOT be a formal freecycle or bulk trash pickup organized for this inaugural year. Sellers are responsible for managing their own unsold items and may not leave trash or furniture on the curb or alley after the event.

What should I do with my unsold items? Participants are encouraged to donate unsold goods to local organizations. Do not leave large amounts of trash in your alley without submitting a 311 request for pick-up.
